Accredited Valuers

API Members

Australian Property InstituteThe Australian Property Institute, formerly the Commonwealth Institute of Valuers, is the peak professional body representing valuers in Australia, with approximately 7,500 professional members nationwide, 1,750 of whom are in Victoria.

The valuers listed below are those who have made themselves known to us by writing feature articles for the information of our clients and consumers. While we do not endorse any particular valuer or firm of valuers, we can confirm that every valuer listed on this page is a member of the Australian Property Institute.

Certified Practising Valuers

Certified Practising ValuerYou may wish to engage a Certified Practising Valuer (CPV). The Certified Practising Valuer website provides the following information about CPVs:

"Why are they special?

All valuers should be objective and independent. However, CPVs hold a unique position in the property industry. All CPVs have to undergo tertiary training and a probationary period in the industry before they can be accredited with the Australian Property Institute (API), Australia’s premier property professional organisation. Following accreditation, CPVs continue to update their knowledge with regular professional development courses within the API. And this means that rather than dealing solely with statistics or relying on ‘gut feeling’, CPVs have a hands-on, professional approach and work with well-established processes and standards to produce valuations that are robust, reliable and independent." (Source: CPV - About CPVs)

The CPV website includes a search facility titled "Find A CPV", and allows you to search for a CPV by company name, suburb, postcode or area of expertise (e.g. sales).

Real Estate Agent Valuers

Some real estate agents have also become accredited valuers. While there is nothing wrong with a real estate agent operating two businesses, a conflict of interests can arise if the real estate agent uses his or her role as a valuer in order to gain business for a real estate agency. Caution should be exercised when using a valuer who is also a real estate agent.
